Four Choice Reaction Time

An array of four “lights” in on the screen corresponds to four buttons below. Each of the lights is highlighted in turn, and the testee responds by tapping the corresponding button as quickly as possible. Another light comes on, and the testee again taps the corresponding button, and so on. The number of correct and incorrect responses and the mean response time for correct responses is recorded.

This test is based on that described by Wilkinson, R. T. & Houghton, D. (1975) Portable four-choice reaction time test with magnetic tape memory, Behavior Research Methods, Instruments, and Computers, 7: 441-446. They used a custom-built device based on a cassette tape recorder.
